Real Witches: What’s a Witch?
“I am a witch, by which I mean that I am somebody who believes that the Earth is sacred, and that women and women’s bodies are one expression of that sacred thing.” - Starhawk
A witch can be many things. For me, it’s the word that best encompasses the many “abilities” that I possess (channeling, energy reading, energy healing, astral projecting, and spell casting to name a few). When someone asks about me it would be a mouthful to list off these things that I identify deeply with and the word witch feels right… It felt like a reclaiming, a remembering once I accepted the title. While I have past lives in which I identified as a priestess (sex priestess in quite a few of them too!), in this life while I may possess many of the same abilities- the title doesn’t feel right. Witch does and I trust what FEELS best to me.
I am not here to be an expert for you on what a witch is or is not, but rather speak to my personal experience in what being a witch means to me. To share my experiences with you in being a “Real Witch” in modern day society. Not the witches portrayed to us in children’s stories with warts on their nose alone in the woods (although sometimes being alone in the woods sounds absolutely FABULOUS!).
In January of this year I had an intense past life regression of a life where I was killed by priests in the Catholic Church after they forced me and my coven to perform a spell to disconnect us from the goddess. I reached out to a dear friend of mine after it started coming through and she in turn was having a simultaneous past life regression as another coven member being held in the dungeon by the priests watching me in the center of the circle where the priests were drawing sigils on my back with ash and our coven's blood.
We went back and forth in messages for a while as our intuitions and ‘clairs’ pinged off one another bringing in the story we needed to understand. With the story of our lives together came the knowledge of how to reverse what we did so long ago (and yes- don’t worry- it’s been done! but also, go read Women Are a Dangerous Magic by Elora Ramirez because it is an activation in all of this for you too!).
In the midst of the channels and the spell coming through to reclaim the collective connection to the goddess, information came forth on a way to reclaim the word witch. A word used for centuries to demonize women. A word used by the patriarchy as an excuse to kill women.

At one time we were revered as priestess. People came to visit us to ask for our assistance. People came to ask us to bless their land for a fertile crop. People asked us to help heal them from their ailments. People asked us to help them understand their life at the moment and offer advice. And while I may not reclaim the priestess title, I will reclaim the reverence we are due and reclaim a word used to harm us and turn it into one that empowers us. I hope you join me in that quest.
Over the coming weeks- maybe months as we will see where the tide takes us here- I will explore what it means to be a ‘Real Witch’ for me. Sharing my daily practices with you. Sharing the ways in which I connect in to channel. Sharing my journey in developing my “abilities” so you can find yours too. And much, much more…
